CALL TO ORDER: President Jean Ketchel
called the annual meeting of the Lewis and Clark Humane Society Board to order
at 6:55 pm at the Pattern House. Board members and shelter staff introduced
themselves.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT: We’ve
faced some new challenges this year, particularly financial challenges. One major order of business is to repair the
crumbling kennel. We’re proud of the
SNIP event which will be taking place this Thursday-Monday, Oct. 21-25, 2004.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Budget for the first quarter of
the fiscal year--we’re at 27% of total income, 25% of total expenses. As of the end of September, we had
$39,000. Expenses were $18,000, income was
$11,000, so right now we’re at $32,000.
And we have $45,000 in the DA Davidson account.
PRESENTATION OF ANNUAL AWARDS: Four Paws (a business award for superior service) – Sandy
Newton/Photo Centre for taking the wonderful portraits of our harder-to-place
animals that appear in the Independent Record.
Saint Francis (an award for exceptional dedication and
kindness to animals) – Arla Barkemeyer, DVM for her work, and the work she
allows her clinic to do for the humane society and Debbe Pistoria who has
singe-handedly done so much for the shelter.
Barkley Award (to volunteers who give their utmost) – Elaine
Anderson who picks up newspapers and cans at the shelter at least once a week
and delivers them to Pacific Recycling.
This brings in $300-$400 per month and is very hard work
The Henry Award (employee of the year—first annual) – Maryanne
Stipich for her hard work, both on and off duty, her helpful attitude, and her
cheerful spirit.
Starfish Certificates of Appreciation – For those who make a difference in the life of each animal -- Debbe Beardslee, Jamie Beardslee, Kristy Gilreath, Jennifer Green, Kelsey Holm, Teresa Holm, Alex Jardon, Cristina Jardon, Nancy Jardon, Tom Kandt, Paulette Kohman, Dave Orndoff, Karla Ritten, Patrick & Wanda Rumley, Joan Russell, Brandt & Cathy Salo, Amy Sivers, Eric Sivers, Amy St. John, Linn Szenter, and Vicki Thacker.
Dues: Currently, the humane society membership dues are
single-$20; family-$35; business-$50; and sustaining-$50. After much discussion, the following changes
were made. Motion by Kevin, second by
Tia, to move the single membership from $20 to $30 per year. Motion passed. Motion by Kevin, second by Tia, to move the
family membership from $35 to $50.
Motion passed. A motion was made
by Lisa P., second by Kevin, to have three levels of business membership at
$100, $500, and $1,000 annually. Motion
passed. Motion by Kaye, second by Tia,
to abolish the sustaining membership.
Motion passed. Motion by Annie,
second by Jolyn, to have a $1,000 life membership category. Motion passed. All dues are tax deductible.
A motion was made by Lisa M.J.,
as chair of the nominating committee, to accept Laura McArdle and Ruth Ann
Hansen as new board members. Kaye
seconded. Motion passed. This now brings the board to its full 15
members.
The following individuals were
elected into office: President-Lisa Peterson; Vice President-Lisa Mecklenberg
Jackson; Secretary-Jolyn Eggart; Treasurer-Kevin St. John.
Those in attendance were reminded
of the 20% of proceeds going to the humane society from Pizza Hut and
ADJOURNMENT:
The board meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
The next LCHS Board meeting will be at the shelter on Wednesday, Nov.
17, 2004 at 6:00 pm.
