Lost and Found Pet Match-ups

Did you ever wish you could help reunite strays with owners? There are several ways to help even if your time is limited. Here are some of those options:

  • Read the LCHS stray list in the newspaper every day to see if any of the strays came from your neighborhood. If you recognize a pet from the description, please notify the owner or call us with any details and we'll follow through. Be sure to read the individual lost and found pet ads also in both the IR and the Adit.

  • Listen to the stray reports on KBLL when possible and follow as above.

  • Become a "block volunteer." This simply means when a stray from your street is brought to the shelter, we call you first to see if you know the owner. If you want to do more "detective work" after our call, you are welcome to, but it isn't required. To sign up as a block volunteer, call your name, address, and phone number to Dianne at 457-9446.

  • If you're passing by the shelter, stop in and look at the strays. Many pets have been reunited "accidentally" when a visitor to the shelter recognized a stray and told us who to contact.

  • Pay careful attention to the pets shown on TV and in the IR monthly Pickapets. These are often strays. If any of them look familiar, call us.

  • Volunteers are needed to do follow-up phone calls, especially during the summer months. This can all be done at your home. It would help if you have fax access to receive the lists. If interested, call the LCHS at 442-1660 .

  • If you find a stray, call us. The owner may be home sitting by the phone hoping for your call. We can tell you right away if any pets matching your description are missing. Also look at the information if you found an animal.

  • Be alert. Read all "missing pet" or "found pet" notices in public places. You never know when "somehow, some day, you might solve an unsolved mystery!"

  • Lastly, make sure all your pets are wearing current i.d. Better yet, educate your friends.
