Adoption Rules

  • All animals adopted from the LCHS will be spayed or neutered prior to leaving the shelter.
The new owner(s) will pay the cost of the spay/neuter surgical fee at the time of adoption. Upon completion and verification of the surgery, the veterinarian/clinic will bill the LCHS. Additional fees may be charged by the veterinarian for certain conditions (in heat, pregnant, elderly, etc.). These fees are the responsibility of the new pet owner. We will make every effort to inform a new pet owner of such conditions. As we are not veterinarians, our knowledge of certain conditions may be limited and we appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
  • Animals will be placed with adults 18 years or older, to be kept as companion animals.
  • Animals can not be adopted as gifts.
  • For renters, permission of the landlord is required.
  • We have the right to decline an adoption based on the judgment of the qualified staff.
  • An adoption questionnaire is completed and approved before any animal is adopted.
  • Upon signing the Adoption Agreement Form, the new pet owner(s) will adhere to its requirements.

American Shelter Dog

In most shelters, cats are rarely identified by breed. Instead, they are labeled as Domestic short, medium or long hairs. So why aren't we describing our dogs in a similar way?
