Lewis & Clark Humane Society to Promote “Long Term Resident”
Dog Adoption

Long TermersMonth-Long Special Promotion Designed to Highlight Dogs at Shelter for a Year or Longer

The Lewis & Clark Humane Society is offering special promotions on three of its dogs, so-called Long Term Residents, to try and spur their adoptions, it was announced today by shelter officials. The promotion is called “Forget Me Not” to encourage community members to give these dogs a chance.

The three dogs – Gypsy, Hercules and Giselle— have been at the shelter for many months; two have been in the shelter a year or more.

Shelter staff say these dogs make wonderful companion animals though each of the three have some quirks that make adoption more difficult, shelter Executive Director, Gina Wiest, said. “Hercules needs to be the sole animal in the house, Gypsy has some issues with men, and Giselle isn’t fond of cats. But we know from experience that when we promote these ‘hard to adopt’ dogs, there is always someone who steps forward, if we can just get the word out.”

Staff and volunteers have worked extensively with each of the three dogs, and are available after adoption to help the owner with any adjustment issues. Additionally, all three dogs come spayed/neutered, micro-chippped and with free bag of food. They also come with a special bag of dog toys and goodies.

“Prospective adopters are invited to stop by the shelter and meet the trio, take them for a walk or visit with them in an outdoor space to see just how wonderful they each are. “ Wiest said. “We know they each have their own ‘guardian angel’ who will come give them their forever home.”

To make arrangements to meet Gypsy, Hercules or Giselle, please call the Lewis & Clark Humane Society at 442-1660 or stop by the shelter at 2112 East Custer Avenue in Helena, behind Costco.
