Lewis & Clark Humane Society Dog Trainer Receives Special Certification

Tom Kandt “Certified Behavior Consultant/Canine” from Council for Professional Dog Trainers

Tom Kandt, on staff at the Lewis & Clark Humane Society as a dog trainer, recently completed a rigorous training program and subsequent test to become a "Certified Behavior Consultant /Canine" through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, shelter officials announced today.

Tom KandtThe program culminated in a comprehensive, four–hour long examination, which only a little above 50% of the students passed. Mr. Kandt was one. Students were tested on applied behavior analysis; biology and anatomy; ethnology, body language and observational skills; health development/life stages; consulting skills and Best Practices; and scientific method.

According to shelter Executive Director, Gina Wiest, “This additional accreditation will make Tom even more helpful to our shelter animals that need some extra training, and to the community as we increase our educational offerings to help animals stay in their homes through helping owners solve common behavior issues.”

Kandt said, “I am pleased to add this important, professional certification to my work with shelter dogs. So many problems can be helped by additional training; this certification will allow me to pass on these tools to animals in need.”
